Eloping in the Dolomites, step by step
Routes, permits, weather windows and what to pack for a mountain elopement.
Most of my Dolomites elopements start before sunrise. The car parks fill by eight, and the light on the peaks is softest in the first hour, so we meet in the dark with head torches and walk in together.
Permits are simpler than people expect. Most lakes and passes need nothing at all; a few protected valleys need a short form sent to the park office two weeks ahead. I handle that, along with a weather window of three days so we can move the walk if the cloud sits low.
Pack layers, a flask and shoes you can actually walk in. You can change into the dress at the top; there is always a rock to hide behind.
